Overview
The Department of Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics in University of Malaya treats those who require specialist consultation in Paediatric dental care and specialist Orthodontic treatment. Treatment under general anaesthesia for paediatric patient is also available. Paediatric Dentistry focuses on the treatment of dental and oral diseases occurring in childhood. Meanwhile, Orthodontics specialty focuses on those children and adults with moderate to severe malocclusions or craniofacial anomalies. Special Care Dentistry specialty is also part of this department. The specialty focuses on the oral health management and care for special need patients aged 16 years and above with moderate to severe disabilities and medical conditions. The dental treatments provided for this population may not differ from the general population, however it may be complicated by the complexity of patients with these problems including physical, intellectual, psychiatric problems, complex medical conditions, or more often a combination of these factors. The aim of the Department is to familiarise the dental undergraduate students in the field of Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics. This training will provide them with knowledge on how to evaluate, improve and maintain the oral health of patient of young patients and exposure to some basic orthodontic interventions. Further education and training in these fields is offered to our postgraduate residents.

Dental Development Office (DDO) is a new office established to strengthen the development component with faculty level.
Its central responsibilities are to develop the mid-tem and long-term development strategies of the faculty under the leadership of the Deputy Dean of Development.
Based on the overall development strategies, DDO is also responsible for developing teaching plans, coordinating resource allocation, and overseeing the faculty planning.
