1.       Programme Classification

The Master of Clinical Dentistry (Oral Medicine & Oral Pathology) programme offered is a clinical coursework programme in which the research component comprises less than thirty (30) percent of the whole programme of study.

2.       Admission Requirements

                (1)          Qualifications for Admission

                 A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent degree in Dentistry and have at least two years post registration clinical experience in dentistry.

                (2)          Other Requirement

                 Fulfil the requirements for admission as prescribed by the Department.

                (3)          English Language Requirement

a)       Obtain a score of 4 for Malaysian University English Test (MUET); OR

b)      Obtain a score of 550 for a total based on the paper, a score of 213 for a total based on the computer or a score of 80 for a total based on the internet for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); OR

c)       Obtain a Band 6 for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)


3.       Duration of Study

 This programme shall be extend over a minimum period of four (4) years and a maximum period of six (6) years.

4.       Structure of Programme Study

                (1)          This programme shall consist of THREE parts:

                                a)            Part I:    comprising instruction in Basic Medical Science subjects, over a period of six (6) months.

                                b)            Part II:   over a period of thirty (30) months comprising of:

                                                (i)            General Dentistry

                                                (ii)           Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Research Methodology and Biostatistics

                                                (iii)          Training in the Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology specialty

                                                (iv)         Research component in the specialty option leading to the submission of a research report

                                c)            Part III:   comprising of a clinical attachment in the specialty option, in the Faculty of Dentistry, University of
                                               Malaya or clinical training centre recognised by the University over a period of twelve (12) months.

                (2)          The scope of this programme is given in the Course Proforma and Course Information as given by the department carrying
out the specialty programme.

5.       Course Registration

 The registration for courses shall be in a week prior to the commencement of each academic year.
