1. Programme Classification
This doctorate’s degree programme is by research and coursework with 86 credits; Part I: 22 credits of coursework and Part II: 64 credits of research component. This is a three-year fulltime course comprising of completion of coursework in the first 3 semesters, and the internship will be conducted in the special semester of the first year. Research project begins in semester 3 up to semester 6 of the programme.
2. Admission Requirements
(1) Qualifications for Admission
Master of Community Oral Health, University of Malaya with a minimum CGPA 3.0 or equivalent recognised qualifications approved by the Senate.
(2) Other Requirement
Candidates with qualifications other than Master of Community Oral Health, University of Malaya must pass an entrance test, interview and fulfil other requirements set by the department from time to time.
(3) English Language Requirement
Non-Malaysian candidates who have graduated from university or international institutions of higher education must fulfil the following English language requirements:
a) Obtain a score of 4 for Malaysian University English Test (MUET); OR
b) Pass with at least Level 6 in English Language Proficiency Programme (ELPP) offered by the UMCCED; OR
c) Obtain a score of 550 for a total based on the paper, a score of 213 for a total based on the computer or a score of 80 for a total based on the internet for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); OR
d) Obtain a Band 6 for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
e) Pass an equivalent English proficiency test approved by the university
3. Duration of Study
This programme shall be extend over a minimum period of six (6) semesters and a maximum period of twelve (12) semesters.
4. Structure of Programme Study
(1) This programme comprises of six (6) core courses and one (1) elective course, and a research project:
a) Core Courses: Three (3) Faculty’s core courses, one (1) core course from Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, UM and an internship training has to be successfully completed and pass in the first year of study (semester I, semester II & special semester).
b) Elective Courses: One (1) elective course is to be taken with the candidates of Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, UM. The elective course is to be successfully completed and pass in the second semester.
c) Research Project: The research project is taken in the third semester up to the sixth semester.

5. Course Registration
The registration for courses shall be in a week prior to the commencement of each academic year.
