Salam 1Malaysia. Many of the UM Dental alumni may recall seeing 2 plaques that were prominently placed at the old registration area of the Faculty of Dentistry, which commerate the official groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new building for a new dental school, followed by the official opening 2 years later. However, many may not be aware that the ground work for this project started more than a decade prior to this, with Paragraph 32 of the Report of the Board of Studies in 1961 on the establishment of the Medical Faculty in Kuala Lumpur agreeing that ultimately the Course in Dentistry should be provided in Kuala Lumpur. One decade later, an Administrative Dean, Professor Dr Ibrahim Yassin Al-Haj was appointed and entrusted with the responsibility for the planning and the development of this new Dental Faculty. The first batch of thirty-two students was admitted to the first year dental course in May 1972. This pioneering batch of students graduated successfully 4 years later. Fast forward 4 decades later, a record of 2307 alumni has graduated with a BDS, and another 404 with masters and PhDs. Where are they now? Are they still continue working in the profession they trained for? Who are our prominent alumni? It has been more than 40 years now, and the alma matter is glad to invite all alumni to return for a reunion, to rekindle the past, and to catch up on their current status. While doing so, it is hope that they will also give back to the alma matter that has trained them dedicately. Please come and join us on the UM Dental Alumni and Charity Dinner, which will be held at Parkroyal Kuala Lumpur on the 4th March 2017.
