DEPAN was established for the benefit of the postgraduate students in the Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya. It can be joined by both local and international students.
The objectives of the association are as follows:

- Provide for the needs and taking care of the welfare of the post-graduate students of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya.
- Be the official voice of the post-graduate students of the University of Malaya Faculty of Dentistry for any related current issues either directly or indirectly
- Encourage and strengthen the unity of postgraduate students of the University of Malaya Faculty of Dentistry from various dental specialties to create a holistic dental health system in the future
- Encourage the sharing of information and the proliferation of ideas through writing, conferences, seminars and other related activities to improve the skills and quality of postgraduate students of the University of Malaya Faculty of Dentistry who will become dental specialists in the future.
- Promoting the progress and ability of post-graduate students of the University of Malaya Faculty of Dentistry and further the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Malaya in securing the future of the nation's dental health
- Carry out social activities according to the ability of post-graduate students of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya
- Explore and participate in activities that can improve the dignity of post-graduate students of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Malaya
