Elective Posting / Clinical Observership in Dentistry

 

The Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya (UM), welcomes international and local undergraduate and postgraduate students who are currently enrolled in Dentistry or Medicine. Students may apply for short-term elective posting / clinical observership.

 

Purpose of Visit

The program aims to provide both international and local undergraduate and postgraduate students with the opportunity to gain academic and clinical exposure through an elective posting at the Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya.

 

During the posting, students may observe clinical sessions or attend classes under the supervision of a UM lecturer. Please note that students are not permitted to perform any clinical procedures. All placements are subject to the availability of supervising lecturers and approval from the relevant departments.

 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a registered and active undergraduate and postgraduate student in Dentistry, or Medicine.

 

Duration

  • The programme is offered for a duration of one (1) to four (4) weeks.
  • Kindly refer to the table below for specific availability.

 

Activities

Participants will engage in observational learning within clinical and hospital settings. Activities may vary according to the assigned department.

Capacity

  • Weekly placements are available on a limited basis.

 

Fees

  • Fee category for students from
    1. Global North countries: USD 200
    2. Global South countries: USD 150 
    3. Local students: RM 400.00
  • Fees do not include accommodation, travel, or living expenses.
  • Full payment of programme fees is required on the first day of the programme.

 

Visa and Immigration

  • Students are responsible for obtaining the appropriate visa for their stay in Malaysia. 
  • For the most up-to-date information, please consult the Embassy of Malaysia or the Malaysian Immigration Department. 
  • Kindly note that the Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya, does not provide individual visa advice.

 

Accommodation & Transportation

  • Please be informed that Universiti Malaya does not provide on-campus accommodation for visiting students.
  • However, you may consider nearby options such as Rumah Universiti, Komune Living, KL Gateway Residences, Pantai Hillpark, Pantai Panorama, University Tower, Seventeen Mall & Residences, Residence Kerinchi, South View Serviced Apartment, South View Residence, Camellia Serviced Suites, Novum Bangsar South, Mahsa Avenue, Tiara Damansara, Jasmine Tower, and Vista Angkasa.
  • Students may also search for rental options through iProperty and Airbnb
  • Students are responsible for arranging their own housing and daily transportation.
  • However, airport transfer may be provided upon availability.

 

Insurance

  • All students are required to obtain valid international travel and health insurance prior to their arrival in Malaysia. 
  • Proof of insurance may be requested during the registration process. 
  • Please note that the Universiti Malaya does not provide assistance with insurance matters.

 

Application Process 

  • All undergraduate applications must be submitted at least three (3) months prior, and postgraduate applications at least one (1) month prior to the commencement of the program
  • Applications received after this deadline may not be considered.
  • Application forms and supporting documents must be submitted through this Application Form for Elective Posting / Clinical Observership.
  • Supporting documents include:
    1. Recent Passport-size Photograph
    2. Copy of Passport (minimum 18 months validity) / NRIC
    3. Confirmation letter of student’s candidature
  • Application will be reviewed by the Faculty of Dentistry, UM and subject to approval by the faculty and department.
  • Successful applicants will be issued an Acceptance Letter.
